Creating a Daily Practice: Tips for Consistency in Energy Work

We all feel blah from time to time. It’s part of life, right? Sometimes we know the reason for feeling not quite ourselves and sometimes we don’t. Feeling stuck, tired, panicky and unable to sleep can be signs that our energy is out of whack. Everything in the Universe – yes including us – is made up of energy, all vibrating at different speeds. These vibrations aren’t just science-y facts they influence how we feel emotionally, physically and spiritually. (The Science Geek has now been wrangled back under control and has left the building). Discovering our personal frequency is a journey of self-awareness and tuning into how you feel and respond to the world around us.

How to Know When Your Energy is Out of Balance

Sometimes it is hard to know exactly when our energy is unbalanced. It is important for our own peace of mind to know when this is happening for us. Don’t fret my friend, there are some revealing signs that I will share with you. However, it is important to remember that everyone is different, and it is imperative to learn your signs so you can get back to your gorgeous shiny beautiful self.

Here are five telltale signs you might need an energy cleanse:

  1. Emotional Overload – you are carrying all of the feels – anxiety, irritability, or sadness and there doesn’t seem to be a clear reason for them.

  2. Mental Fog – Your creativity has gone bye-byes; your focus is on holiday and every decision feels like trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube blindfolded.

  3. Physical Funk – you are tired all the time, headaches are a regular guest, or you keep catching every little bug going around.

  4. Stuck in a Rut – Negative patterns keep replaying in your life, or you feel like you are running on a hamster wheel – lots of effort, zero progress.

  5. Energy Drain – Even with plenty of sleep you wake up feeling like a zombie. Taking on other people’s negative emotions like you accidentally signed on to be their emotional baggage handler.

Four Energy Clearing Techniques

Now that we have explored some signs that our energetic vibration is not at its best let’s talk about how to remedy the situation. How do we do this, you ask? Very good question! We give them a good old clean! Think of energy cleansing as giving your vibes a much-needed spring cleaning. Just like your physical body can hang onto junk food and some less than stellar decisions, your energetic body collects its own mess – stress, negativity and those endless “ugh” moments. If you don’t clear it out, you might start feeling as wiped out as a phone teetering at 1%. Left unchecked, this energetic clutter can even sneak into your physical body, bringing along fatigue and random aches. In short, energy cleansing in your personal refresh button.

There are countless ways to cleanse your energy and as with anything some techniques may resonate with you, and some may not. Only use what feels right for you. Here are a few methods I use that I find to work really well.

  1. Smudging - it is a practice that uses the smoke from burning herbs or wood sticks to cleanse and purify the energy around you. You can sage yourself and your space whether it is your home or workspace. One of the most popular choices for smudging is white sage, which has been used in ceremonial rituals by various indigenous cultures for generations. Palo Santo, a fragrant wood, is another favourite for this purpose (and my personal preference).

  2. Sound Healing - works by using vibrations to help release energetic blockages and encourage healing. You can join a sound healing session or use this practice at home. A technique I often like to use at home is – music. I play whatever tunes match my mood in the moment – loudly - and I dance, and I sing and just move around any way my body feels like moving. It is amazing how this simple act can shift your mood and the energy in your environment. I often do this while physically cleaning the house and to complete the process I smudge the space afterwards to fully lift and refresh the vibration. It is a beautiful way to reset both the energy around me and within me.

  3. Crystals - have been cherished for centuries for their unique energy healing properties, each crystal holds its own vibrational frequency, making it a powerful tool to cleanse, protect and balance your energy field. You can keep them close by carrying them on your pocket, wearing them as jewelry, or simply displaying them at home to infuse your space with their energy.

    While every crystal comes with its own unique properties and energetic perks, I’ve found that the best way to pick the right one is to trust your instincts, your intuition. . . and the crystal itself. Honestly crystals always seem to know when you need them the most. It is like a sparkly little friend that just shows up at the right exact moment.

  4. Salt Baths – salt is a natural purifier that works wonders for cleansing your energy field. Taking a bath with Epsom salts or sea salt is an easy and effective way to release negative energy while rejuvenating both your body and mind.

The Benefits of Energy Cleansing

While energy cleansing is often associated with alternative medicine, Science is starting to catch onto its benefits – especially when it comes to stress relief and mental health. Energy cleansing comes with a variety of benefits, many of which you can feel straight away. Here is a breakdown of how it can help.

  1. Emotional Clarity – Energy cleansing clears out emotional blockages, helping you to process and release stuck feelings so you can move forward with a lighter heart.

Daily Energetic Ritual

Taking a moment each day to check in with your energy can be an incredibly grounding practice and a really good habit to get into.

Here is how I keep my energy in check every morning:

First, I hop in the shower – and this isn’t just about getting clean. While the water is running, I imagine all the negativity, stress, worries and general yuckies washing right off me and swirling down the drain where they belong. Once I am out of the shower (and obviously dried and dressed), I take a moment to focus on my breathing. Deep breath in through my nose, long exhale out through the mouth. It is simple but so grounding.  Next, I set my intention for the day – usually something to do with having a productive, positive day. Finally, I visualize a bubble of white light surrounding me, creating a protective shield for the day that helps to keep my energy clean and balanced.

One thing to keep in mind when trying to balance your energy is the importance of keeping the energy in your home clear and positive as well as your own personal energy. A clean, high-vibration space can do wonders for your overall well-being. Regular energy cleansing – whether through smudging, sound healing or even decluttering – helps maintain a light and positive atmosphere.
