Overcoming Skepticism: How to Stay True to Your Psychic Journey.

Skepticism – we’ve all experienced it in some way, shape or form in our lives. Whether it is doubting something someone is telling us or watching someone question our own thoughts or beliefs. It has a way of creeping into conversations especially about big things like raising children, political views, or spiritual beliefs etc. It really can put a damper on things the old skepticism – but it doesn’t need to be a bad thing. With a little understanding, it can open up opportunities for deeper reflection and growth.

Outer Skepticism

Whether you are new to spirituality or have been on the path for a while, dealing with uninvited negative opinions can be a challenge. Whether it is coming from friends, family, or even complete strangers, someone will always have something to say about your beliefs. It can be tough to figure out how to accept someone’s opinion, especially when they’re skeptical about something you believe in and care about deeply. Learning how to not let it shake you and cause you to doubt everything about yourself is part of the challenge.

When you are on a spiritual path, you might come across a few people who are confused or even offended by your beliefs and practices. Not everyone shares our views and that is okay. But what is not okay is when you have to defend your beliefs or even put up with abuse because of them. The reality is, not everyone will agree with the path you have chosen, and this holds true in all areas of life, not just spirituality. We are all different with unique soul contracts, interests, and beliefs. The world would be a pretty boring place if we were all the same and felt and believed the same thing! No thanks!

Skepticism, especially when it comes to ideas about spirituality, often stems from fear – fear of the unknown, fear of the different and sometimes fear of fully embracing who we really are. But understanding that fear can help us to move past it and find common ground.

There is another side to spiritual skepticism - the need for instant proof, proof that prayer works, proof that ghosts are real, proof that we have all lived multiple lives (don’t get me started on past lives or we will be here all day), or that every psychic knows the lotto numbers. Spirituality is an act of faith, and faith takes practice. Whether it is through divination, astrology, meditation, Christianity, or any other spiritual path, it is about the journey and not about instant gratification. Spirituality is all about trusting in something you can’t always see but believe is there.

Skeptics often expect you to do the work for them, to convince them or to even prove them wrong. But it is important to remember that you are not responsible for anyone else’s beliefs – only your own. The same thing goes for those searching for tangible or scientific proof of spiritual forces. Spirituality isn’t something you’ll find in a lab. Science can’t give you faith; you have to build it yourself, and it often starts from within.

Another thing to keep in mind about spirituality is that it is completely personal and what works for one person may not work for another. Each of us has the right to choose the path and perspective that feels right for us. It is all about finding what resonates with you. Whether you go to church, meditate, get psychic readings, go on ghost hunts, or get energy healings, it is all unique to you. And that my friend is the beauty of it. It doesn’t have to look the same for everyone for it to matter. In fact, it is the individuality of each person’s spiritual journey that makes it so incredible and magical.

Inner Skepticism

Now we come to the inner skeptic, we’ve all got that voice in our minds that questions what we do, what we think and what we feel. This inner critic can be strong especially when we are starting out on our spiritual journey, causing us to doubt ourselves. There are ways to quieten the inner skeptic and remain connected to your spiritual path. It is about finding balance, trusting your intuition and gently reminding yourself of the bigger picture.

Just like the outer skeptic our inner skeptic can be driven by fear.  It acts as a protective mechanism, but sometimes it holds us back. Recognising this can help us see the inner skeptic for what it is – a tool that we can acknowledge but not always follow.

To truly follow your path, you must stay true to yourself. This is the key to navigating life and your choices with clarity. When your mind, heart and soul are in alignment, you are living from the centre of your being and tapping into your highest potential. But staying true to yourself requires knowing who you are at your core. When you understand the deeper motives behind your actions and learn to balance the polarities in your life – masculine and feminine, dark and light – you find your centre. It is in this that still point, within your being, where pure knowledge resides.

When you are not true to yourself and get too caught up in the outer world, your energy gets scattered in too many directions. The truth is, it doesn’t matter what your friends, family or anyone else thinks about your life. What you read online or in books is also not important. At best other people’s opinions can offer guidance; at worst they can leave you feeling stuck and disconnected from your inner truth. Ultimately, you have to take the steps to honour your authentic self, because it is your path to walk – not anyone else’s. The only way forward is by staying true to who you are.

3 Ways to Stay True to Your Spiritual Journey

  1. Avoid Being Drawn into Debates

Conversations where each member of the discussion can voice their views in a healthy respectful way – yes. Having to offer proof of why you are right, and the others are wrong – no. Everyone has the right to believe what they do, and it is not anyone’s place or even their right to try to change other people’s minds to believe what they do. The important thing to remember is that we can all live harmoniously as a community, even without all sharing the same beliefs.

  2. Being Firm in Your Boundaries

As you walk your path, you’ll realise that there are no absolute truths, only choices. The important thing is to not let negative remarks make you doubt yourself or stop you from following your path. Don’t let the fear of being judged or criticised hold you back from living your truth. You have every right to your spiritual practices, to study and grow, to develop your spiritual knowledge, and live your life without feeling like you need to justify yourself to anyone. Just because someone invites you to an argument means you have to engage. Sometimes people just want to pick a fight – to prove you wrong and them right, maybe just to make themselves feel better. There is no need to lower yourself to their level and try to change their minds.

  3. Honour what works for you

To follow your path, you only need to do what supports you. We often get motivated by others and unknowingly tap into their energy and mistake it for our own. When the excitement fades, we start to doubt ourselves, thinking that we can’t achieve the same results. The truth is, you can’t achieve the same results by following some else’s path. You can only achieve what you are meant to by staying on your own path.

When you stay true to yourself, you do not get stuck in the opinions of others. You honour your inner truth and act in alignment with it, while it is important to remain open to help and uplifting energy from others, there is a world of difference between giving your power away and staying true to yourself.

Ultimately, staying true to yourself is about committing to what truly matters to you. It means honouring your purpose and fully embracing what is meaningful in your life. It is about having the strength to be who you are no matter what others may think or feel about it.
